Sketch of the Week - A Little Piece of Christmas

With all of the beautiful Christmas and Winter themed products out on the market right now,sometimes it's a challenge to find the right balance between letting your selected patterned papers shine in all their glory while keeping the reader's focus on your photograph(s). That's one thing about this particular sketch... it's got a little bit of both--visual interest from the patterned paper of your choice and yet your attention is still taken immediately to the photograph.

But the real reason I was actually drawn to this sketch was the simple little pieces of journaling you see on the side there. I've seen this trend time and time again over the last year or so, however until now it wasn't something that actually appealed since my journaling typically varies from being anywhere from one word to several paragraphs with not much in between. Looking at this fine example by Misty Willis, however, I can see how varying the type and the number of words on a strip can really pull the whole look together.

It's a PAR-TAY!

I've said before that I have the best job in the world. But seriously? Any job where you can take pretty much anything you do and turn it into a "party"--well, that's a pretty darn good job. :-) And boy have we been having the parties lately!

There's the store set-up "party" we had at Nora back in October (pictures to come soon!), another store set-up at Graceland the week before Thanksgiving, the party we have every day when new product comes into the warehouse (and by party in the warehouse I mean me dancing around like that scrap-happy crazy person I mentioned on Monday) and then this past week it's been a party every day getting things prepped and ready for our Grand Re-Opening/Holiday Open House coming up this Sunday!

Here's Vicki (form our Nora store) having a ribbon "party"! All that glorious ribbon cut into 1 yard lengths to be packed into assortment packs!  And those beautiful little multi-colored ribbon packs (holding 10-15 yards of ribbon each) will be on sale for just $1.99 at our Open House (Reg. $2.99)!

And speaking of value packs, Wendy from the Delaware store and I had a little mini "party" of our own, spending Monday afternoon packing up more of those Bazzill packs we all know and love! That's right--they're back! And on Sunday, everyone's favorite cardstock will be on sale for $19.99 per 100 sheet pack! (See... I told you we've been partyin' it up around here!)

Sketch of the Week - Inquiring Minds Want to Know

Since there remain only 17 days until Christmas (counting today), I figured a few card sketches for this week's feature seemed rather fitting. Especially when you consider there's even less time to finish up those handmade cards in order to have them mailed in time to reach friends and family before Christmas. :-) Not that mailing them late is a bad thing... I think we've all been there, done that! Right?

 
  
But that leads me to my next question... Provided you don't start making your cards in January to where you have an entire year to stay ahead of the card-making game (and if you do I'm totally jealous!), what are your tips for making the holiday card-making process easier?

For me, I try to just go with the flow. Some years an idea will pop into my head no problem and I go out, find my materials and just do it. Other years I really struggle--what to do, which product to use, how many to make, should I include a picture, etc.  And this year is one of those more challenging years so I've decided to check out the CardMaps section of Becky Fleck's PageMaps website for inspiration! (You can also check out older card sketches by visiting the jpeg or pdf archives.)

So anyway... I posed the question on our Facebook page last week-- When making handmade Christmas cards, do you make a bunch of different ones for all of your friends and family members or do you make one card and just rinse and repeat? Inquiring minds (umm...me) wanted to know! What I found was that some people prefer to make one card and set things up like an assembly line while others prefer to make a variety of different cards for everyone on their list.  Which category do you fall into?

 

Stamped Holiday Card Kit

On the Menu: Grandma's Christmas Crab Soup

When Jill Yegerlehner of Jillibean Soup fame delivered our first order a few weeks ago, I think I may have freaked her out a little bit. You see, my desk is only about 5 feet away from the door and when she came in with our package I literally flew out of my chair gushing with anticipation and practically bowled her over with my enthusiasm. Needless to say, I was... just a little excited.

Just a wee bit.

Now, I'll readily admit that I may be somewhat over-the-top when it comes to getting all scrap-happy anytime new product arrives. But I've been a Jillibean Soup fan for awhile now and to finally have had the opportunity to bring their products into our stores--well, it's like pure scrap-utopia!

Anyway... back to my story. So after I met Jill and took our box back to the warehouse to get checked in and processed for delivery to stores the embarrasment started to sink in. I'm thinkin' "Ohmigosh... I am such a dork." But wouldn't you know that in spite of my crazy scrapbook lady impression that fateful Friday afternoon, Jill has agreed to come hang out with us at our Grand Re-Opening/Open House on Sunday? Woot! Woot!

Yup, you read that correctly, folks... the super-dee-duper special "mystery" guest I eluded to when announcing our Open House in Friday's blog post is in fact Jill from Jillibean Soup.  

 
From 1-3pm, Jill will be on site at our Graceland store sponsoring an ADORABLE Giftcard Holder/Ornament make-n-take--and the Grandma's Christmas Crab Soup collection is on the menu!

Christmas Countdown Album Kit

Don’t let another busy December slip through your fingers without taking a moment to capture the memories! Inspired by Ali Edwards’ “December Daily” album series, this 6x6 acrylic album kit includes all of the materials you’ll need to complete an entire album with a page (or two) for each day in December leading up to Christmas. All you’ll need to do is add your photos and journaling a little bit every day to complete the album and document your December! Kit will include color photographs and assembly instructions.

Delaware's December Card Club

Every month, the Delaware Card Club class features an adorable set of beautifully designed cards and inspiration to add to your collection and this month is no exception!

Do you have someone impossible to shop for? Get them a gift they can really use! In this month’s Card Club you will create a set of 6 Holiday Cards complete with an adorable decorated gift box. You'll be using Bo Bunny’s ‘Tis the Season collection of Christmas/Winter papers along with the Cricut machine and assorted punches!

(Personally, my favorite part about this class is the box. Stephanie used the Bazzill Pomegranate Random Stripe Glazed cardstock to create it and I think it adds just the right touch of elegance and sparkle!)
