Well, I just couldn't resist trying my hand at one of the latest crazes in scrapbooking- acrylic albums. I'll have to admit, this 8x8 album took me a while to make (I think I worked on it every evening for a week). Maybe it was because I used mostly 5x7's, and also that I'm a perfectionist (some may call it OCD... but whatever...). I probably also covered more of the pages than you're really supposed to- there's not that many pages where you can really see the layering all too much. But, I really had fun using my Autumn Leaves' Flourish stamps, Black Staz-On, Scenic Route Laurel papers, some Bling, some old-school Making Memories products (canvas tabs and travel clearly Defined stickers... yep... those are really old!), some old EK Success round alphabet stickers and some May Arts ribbons.
So, here it is, my "Cape Cod" acrylic album...
For the cover, I lightly brushed olive paint (Paint Dabber) along the edges and close to the edges. I also added some red rhinestones to the flourish stamps. For the "Cape Cod", I used chipboard letters that I covered in Scenic Route paper and then sanded the edges of the letters. I also made my own round red page reinforcements and ran them through my Xyron so they'd really stick. Here you can see the flourish stamp and the red rhinestones close-up....
I ran the patterned-paper-covered-chipboard letters through my Xyron 250 so the adhesive application would be even from the back.
By using my Xyron, there's no visible adhesive from the back ("Can't see the lines, can you Russ?"... anyone know what movie that quote's from?).
The right page (the light green with darker green dots) is just an 8x8 page with rounded corners. I used the Laurel papers from the Scenic Route collection because they're double-sided and heavyweight..
The right side page (the one with the 9 small photos) is a little hard to see because you're seeing the pages behind it..
Here you can see a close-up of that page (the one with the 9 photos). I was very careful to make sure the pictures were cut EXACTLY the same size so when I put them back to back, there wouldn't be any part of the backs of the photos showing. This took awhile, but I really loved the result. For the photo corners, I used my QuicKutz and then ran them through my Xyron.
In the picture below, the right page is one I added- it's a 6x6 page I cut from a 12x12 sheet of Wild Asparagus paper from My Mind's Eye. I thought the smaller pages added some fun and broke up all of the 8x8 pages...
In the picture below on the right page- I first covered the back of the acrylic page with matte Mod Podge and then applied a full 8x8 sheet of the bright pink/red paper to the back of the page. It dried clear and it allowed me to use the acrylic top of the page to stamp on...
On the right page on the picture above, I used my Crop-A-Dile to punch three holes through the acrylic page to add ribbon accents...
Simple pages with 5x7 photos...
On the right page in the picture above, I added a Making Memories canvas tab and then used my Crop-A-Dile again to punch holes at the bottom of the tab to add ribbon....
More simple pages with 5x7 photos, but you can see the layers of the other pages along the edges of the pages...
On the right page in the picture below, I punched more holes to add ribbon to the corners of the 5x7...
In the picture below, I added another 6x6 page...
For the back cover, I used Mod Podge on the front of the page and then added an 8x8 piece of patterned paper. Once it dried, the back cover was the thicker acrylic, but yet the patterned paper (I used double-sided paper) was visible.
I then used a Slick Writer to write on the back of the acrylic....
Overall, the acrylic album was fun to do and something different than the usual 12x12 page!
